Aiming to be a top wine region in Japan

Wineries in Yoichi Town have increased to seven, and support for new wineries has been given since the town was designated the Special District for Wine, Northern Fruit Kingdom under the national government's Act on Special Districts for Structural Reform. Wine-making is also in full swing in Niki Town, giving the districts around the two towns among the largest scales of any wine-producing areas in Japan. We intend to develop the towns through the production of wine, and the Yoichi Niki Wine Tourism Project is expected to serve as a catalyst for such development.

A delicious journey for adults: Exploring Yoichi and Niki, towns of grapes and wine

Yoichi is known for apples and other fruits. It's also famous as a town of whiskey, and it's gained even more popularity since it became the location of a serial morning drama on NHK TV. The town has recently attracted a great deal of public attention as the town of wine whose yield is the highest in Hokkaido. All of the above owes to the districts' moderate climate, which suits the cultivation of fruits, and there are many vast agricultural fields and farms that are cultivated with advanced technology. The districts have roughly 40 farms growing wine grapes, the planted area of grapes is about 120 ha and the total yield of grapes exceeds 700 tons a year. Recently, many "domains," which are farms that vint wine themselves, have been established, getting attention. Why not travel the two towns on foot to enjoy the local cuisine and attractions with wine?
